Probe compensation matches the 10x passive probe to the oscilloscope’s input capacitance for accurate measurements. Without it, waveforms can distort and introduce errors, including offset. In the 1x setting, compensation isn’t needed because it’s a direct 1:1 connection.
To compensate the probe, set it to 10x, connect it to the oscilloscope and the probe compensation signal, and observe the square wave. If needed, adjust the probe using the built-in compensation screw until the waveform has a flat top and clean edges. This quick step ensures reliable and accurate measurement results.
