Tektronix authors offer up IoT measurement insights

The Internet of Things (IoT) movement is well underway with many products in both the consumer and industrial sectors already developed and deployed. In fact, Gartner forecasts that 8.4 billion connected things will be in use worldwide in 2017, up 31 percent from 2016.

But here’s the thing: this is only scratching the surface. In the same report, Gartner predicts that the number of connected devices will reach 20.4 billion by 2020.

What this means for electrical engineers, of course, is that IoT is still a work in progress and there are many more products left to be designed or refined, developed and tested.

If you’re one of the many engineers moving into IoT projects, you’ll want to be sure to read through a couple of recent how-to articles authored by Tektronix experts and published in Electronic Design.

The first by Wilson Lee, “Practical Approaches to IoT Test Challenges,” offers tips on how to overcome “six key challenges where test and measurement is a critical part of the project’s ultimate success.” Wilson, Senior Manager, Marketing has over 25 years of experience in technical marketing and technical sales leadership roles.

There are plenty of test and measurement tasks involved with bringing IoT products to market, as Tektronix expert Wilson Lee writes.

From there, Robert Green writes about the smart use of the right test and measurement equipment to help IoT developers optimize their designs for low power. In “Leverage Smart Test Techniques to Extend IoT Battery Life,” Bob imparts the wisdom and insights IoT designers need to overcome the battery squeeze and put every drop of available power to good use. Bob is a Senior Market Development Manager for the Keithley Instruments Product Line and has been with the company for over 20 years.

If after reading these two articles you still need more IoT test and measurement insights, you’ll want to head over to our IoT resource page at tek.com/application/internet-things-iot where you’ll find plenty helpful tutorials available for download along with equipment recommendations and special offers.
