Why is my VM700T giving an "Invalid Date Code" error during startup diagnostics?

Question :

Why is my VM700T giving an "Invalid Date Code" error during startup diagnostics?

Answer :

Some early VM700T instruments suffered from a Y2K bug where they would perceive the year 2000 as the year 1900 and fail their startup diagnostics giving an "Invalid Date Code" error.

To fix this issue, you must replace the VM700A's EEPROM (U14 on the CPU board) with a new chip (part number 163-0782-03). You can order this replacement IC directly from Tektronix by calling 1-800-833-9200.
