Question :
Why does it take 20 seconds before I can use Help on the TDS2000 and TDS1000 Series oscilloscopes?
Answer :
Because of hardware limitations, the scope stores all Help text, and some of the Probe Check text, in compressed form. After the scope is turned on, the first time that the user accesses Help, the scope will display this screen:
"The text system must initialize. This takes about 20 seconds. Do you want to continue?"
This initialization decompresses all of the Help text and Probe Check text for the currently-selected language. After the initialization is complete, if the user does not change the language or power off the scope, this screen will not appear again.
If the user brings up a compressed Probe Check screen before the text system is initialized, the scope will automatically decompress all Help and Probe Check text for the currently-selected language, without requesting a confirmation. The scope displays an "in-progress" message during the decompression.
The next time the user power cycles the scope, and accesses Help (or one of the compressed Probe Check screens), the 20 second decompression must be performed again.
