What is the difference between guarding and shielding?

Question :

What is the difference between guarding and shielding?

Answer :

Guarding utilizes a low impedance conductor, which is maintained at the same potential as the high impedance circuit, to intercept any interfering voltage or current. Shielding utilizes a conductive enclosure to prevent electrostatic interference from affecting a high impedance circuit. A guard does not necessarily provide shielding.
