My scope's hardcopy menu has a format called RLE - what is it?

Question :

My scope's hardcopy menu has a format called RLE - what is it?

Answer :

RLE is an image format found in the hardcopy menus of TDS1000, TDS2000, and TDS3000B Series oscilloscopes.

RLE stands for Run Length Encoding and is a simple form of compression. RLE searches for repeated runs of a single symbol in an input stream, and replaces them with a single instance of the symbol and a run count.

RLE format is compatible with WINWORD.
