Question :
Are the AES outputs on the back of the WFM or WVR series instruments processed?
Answer :
The AES outputs on the back of the instrument can be configured to produce AES versions of either the analog input, Dolby input, embedded audio or to mirror the AES inputs.
When the AES outputs are configured to mirror the AES inputs they act as an active loopthrough. In this mode, no changes are made to the AES data however it is not a true passive loopthrough so certain electrical characteristics may not be replicated exactly.
To summarize, in the mirroring mode, the AES output is an un-modified copy of the selected input but it is not technically the same signal.
When the AES outputs are configured to be AES versions of another input (analog, Dolby etc…) then they are created by the instrument to match the output format.
