Can a single protocol component of the K1x series products be upgraded and nothing else? For example can just the MAP supports be upgraded?

No. For any system to have software upgrades all licensed elements must be taken into consideration as well as the structure in which the software is sold. In any software release there will be multiple items that have updated or upgraded so the entire system must be considered when upgrading. K12xx software is considered in bundles or package by package in some cases. The K15 software structure is primarily bundle. Lets define these for clarity.

A bundle is a grouping of software packages to support a particular testing area. Examples are GSM, CDMA, GPRS, CDMA2000 and UMTS. These are generally seen in the Monitoring configurations on the Protocol Analyzers.

A package would be an item that is optionally added to a monitor system such as Multi-Interface Call Trace, MICT, for GPRS. Or when working with a K1297-G20 Simulation system the configuration is almost always configured of specific packages needed for a particular area of support. In these systems the entire licensing would be examined to best determine the upgrade path at a particular moment in time.
