Question :
I cannot connect to the TLA Application using TPI+ PPI+ or ActiveX from my client PC. How do I set it up? My TLA or my client PC is running Windows XP.
Answer :
Here is the procedure that allows TPI/PPI on Windows XP to work again. Step 1 needs to be done on both the TLA and the Client PC. Steps 2-11 only need to be done on the TLA.

1. Do same setup as you would in Windows 2000 for COM/DCOM config.
1. Run dcomcnfg.exe.
2. Expand Component Services->Computers->My Computer->DCOM Config
3. Right click on Tektronix TLA Application and choose Properties
4. Click the General tab and set Authentication Level to None.
5. Click the Location tab. For the Client PC, select Run application on the following computer (uncheck all others) and enter the name of the TLA instrument you wish to connect to in the edit field. For the TLA, check Run application on this computer.
6. Click the Security tab and under Launch and Activation Permissions, select customize and click the Edit button.

2. Type Everyone and Click Ok.
3. Select all of the check boxes under allow for the Everyone user and click OK.
7. Go back to the Security tab and under Access Permissions, select customize and click the Edit button.

8. Go back to the Security tab and under Configuration Permissions, select customize and click the Edit button.

9. Click the Identity tab and select The Interactive user. Click Apply and then Ok.
10. To setup the permissions for PPI (the Pattern Generator Application) repeat steps 3 through 9 above, replacing “Tektronix TLA Application” in step 3 with “Tektronix Pattern Generator Application” otherwise close dcomcnfg.
2. Go to START - RUN and type "gpedit.msc". In the Group Policy go to COMPUTER CONFIGURATION - WINDOWS SETTINGS - SECURITY SETTINGS - LOCAL POLICIES - SECURITY OPTIONS. Set the option "Accounts: Guest account status" to "Enabled".
3. Set the option "Accounts: Limit local account use of blank passwords to console login only" to "Disabled".
4. Now scroll further down and set the "Network access: Allow anonymous SID/name translation" to "Enabled" if permitted, if not please disregard.
5. Reboot the computer and log back in as administrator.
6. Set "Network access: Let Everyone permissions apply to anonymous users" to "Enabled".
7. Under to the "USER RIGHTS ASSIGNMENT", add to the "Access this computer from the network" the "Guest" user.
8. Make sure that the "Guest" user is removed from the "Deny access to this computer from the network" and "Deny logon locally" lists.
9. Go back to dcomcnfg and expand Component Services and then expand Computers. Right click on My Computer and select Properties.
10. Under the Default Properties tab, check Enable COM Internet Services on this computer, change Default Authentication Level to Default, and change Default Impersonation Level to Anonymous.
11. Under the COM Security tab, go into all four buttons and add the user “Everyone” with all access allowed.
12. Reboot.
