Question: Some DAQ6510 units are encountering an issue upon startup where they report a -285 "TSP Syntax error at line 1113: unfinished string near '<eof>' " error. This does not seem to impact device functionality but is concerning and irritating to customers.
Answer: If you get a TSP syntax error on startup, try looking for any scripts in the menu --> scripts --> manage menu that are named autoexec. These may be automatically executing on startup and can have errors in them, simply delete any scripts called autoexec to resolve this.
Downgrade to an older firmware version and then upgrade back to the newest firmware afterwards. This performs a more thorough reset of the firmware than merely upgrading the firmware, or reinstalling the current firmware version.
Also, make sure no ethernet, GPIB or RS-232 cables are connected to the instrument, in order to guarantee no computers are trying to send commands that have an invalid tsp syntax to the instrument.
Lastly, you can try generating an autoexec script that is blank, and this may bypass a startup error, The method to do this is described starting on page 4-96 of the reference manual found here: Model DAQ6510 Data Acquisition and Multimeter System Reference Manual | Tektronix
If none of these methods work, you may need to have the instrument sent in for service to have the instrument memory reflashed.
