Can I PLEEEEZE Go to Work?

Getting your son or daughter to do their chores or homework every night may be a daunting task even for the most determined parent.  But go to work with mom or dad?  That’s a whole different story, especially if that workplace is Tektronix world headquarters in Beaverton, Ore.

For the uninformed, the fourth Thursday of each April is Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day. This year, more than 37 million Americans at over 3.5 million workplaces participated, marking the program’s twenty-first anniversary.

At Tektronix, 142 kids talked their parents into letting them take a day off school and joining them for the commute to campus. Needless to say, the kids had a blast, and who knows they might have even learned a thing or two that could help to get them fired up about a career in electronics. Here are a few pics from the event.

The ice cream physics project was (ahem) cool to watch, and a nice taste treat.

The volunteers helping to organize and support the day lived to tell about it.

Additional activities included a radar gun scavenger hunt where kids would run, see their speeds and look at a radio signal. There was also a video demo on colors and signals. Of course the kids headed home with badges, lot of pictures and full tummies thanks to pizza lunch with gelato for desert.

Here’s proof, going to work is fun. But who knew it could be this much fun?
