Question :
Can you provide more detail on the compensation routine above what is provided in the user manual? My main interest in the improve the accuracy of the horizontal timing.
Answer :
When the Sampling scopes sweeps across the screen it does so with a count of an oscillator plus a ramp. When the ramp runs out of range the scope adds to the count of the oscillator, and starts the ramp at a low position. This change (long ramp, smaller count to larger count, short ramp) is calibrated for smoothness when compensation is performed.
If a PhaseRef (82A04) is used the above becomes insignificant (because the PR supplies the precise timing position).
