The 100G transport architecture is built around 4x25 Gbps. Unfortunately, sending 25 Gbps over copper presents a major hurdle for engineering teams who have to accurately characterize devices with little signal timing margin to spare. It is important that characterization test equipment has a sub 100 fs rms intrinsic jitter– the absolute bleeding edge of test instrumentation performance.
