How to Remotely Determine if a USB is Inserted MDO34

Model: MDO34 | Subject: Setup & Operation | Published: October 2026 | FAQ ID: KB-04160

Question:

How can we remotely determine if a USB is plugged into our MDO 3 Series? How can we remotely determine which port the USB is plugged into?

Answer:

Set the Current Working Drive (CWD) to one of the USB ports and then check how much free space is available on the drive. This would use these commands:

FILESYSTEM:CWD "E:/"
FILESystem:FREESpace?

The free space query will return 0.0E+0 if there is no USB mounted. It will return a number such as 989.343744000E+6 if there is a USB mounted.
The E: drive is the top USB port on the front of the scope and the default drive for CWD.
The bottom drive on the front of the scope is F: and the drive on the back of the scope is G:.
