MPEG-2 / MPEG-4 / H.264

Extensions to the MPEG-2 standard to incorporate H.264 as an additional Elementary Stream (ES) type within an MPEG-2 Transport Stream (TS), have made H.264 accessible and attractive to broadcasters and network operators. The transition presents a challenge for equipment manufacturers developing H.264 variants because although H.264 offers twice the compression efficiency of MPEG-2, twice the processing complexity is required. Tektronix is able to support an end-to-end H.264 solution, encompassing the 3 main phases, Design, Deploy and Manage.

MPEG-2 Transport Stream technology continues to thrive in a variety of applications including next generation compression H.264 or MPEG-4 encoders. Design verification and debug/analysis may involve MPEG-2 TS testing as well as the evaluation of the elementary stream data.

A Guide to Maintaining Quality of Service for Digital Television Programs

Digital television programs consist of video, one or more channels of audio, and potentially large amounts of data. This guide covers the technologies relating to QoS for the video part of the program, which we will refer to as Video Quality of Service, or "QoS."

Encoder Testing

As broadcasters make the transition from exclusively analog video broadcasting to programming that includes compressed digital video, digital encoder designers are faced with the need to understand the MPEG-2 compression standard and the role it plays in designing robust MPEG equipment

Measuring and Interpreting Picture Quality in MPEG Compressed Video Content

Designers, equipment manufacturers, and evaluators need to apply objective picture quality methods to the equipment they are working with. The Tektronix PQA300 Picture Quality Analysis system provides fast, repeat-able, quantified Picture Quality Ratings (PQR) on compressed video content.

MPEG-2 Decoder Design & Test

Consumers are rapidly switching from their old analog TV set top boxes to the newer digital boxes in order to get higher-quality video, higher channel counts, and the extra services provided by digital broadcasters.

Using Triggered Video Capture to Improve Picture Quality

Today's video transmission methods depend on compressed digital video to deliver the high-volume of video data required. This creates a need for an easy, reliable, consistent test method to guarantee Video Quality of Service to the end user.

A Guide to Picture Quality Measurements for Modern Television Systems

In this guide, the aspects of video testing are presented based on an understanding of the complete television system including production, compression, decompression and the display or reuse of the original program. The need for continuing application of traditional video testing methods ....

MPEG Timing and Synchronization Webinar

Whether your job is to design Encoders and Set Top Boxes (STBs), or to evaluate or integrate them, dealing effectively with timing concerns is essential. A Tektronix Buffer Analyzer can pinpoint the source of timing problems, and our webinar covering Program Clock Reference (PCR) issues and more explains timing principles and their impact on video quality.

Basic MPEG Overview / MPEG Made Easy Webinar

This introduction to MPEG covers Transport Streams, timing, and error types. Watch this webinar to learn about TR101-290 error types, and how it is giving way to ATSC Recommended Practice (A/78), a more meaningful measure of customer impacting events.

MPEG Troubleshooting in Cable Networks Webinar

A must for reviewing measurement guidelines and tools for testing MPEG in cable networks. This webinar covers many topics including the measurement guidelines know as ETSI TR 101 290.
