PCI-Express™ Design Solutions

Moore's law drives the microprocessor such that it must increase the core frequency to keep up with the increasing number of transistors that can be placed on a die. The system bus continues to scale with processor speed, and memory bandwidths have increased as well. However, the I/O hub has remained fairly stable, and PCI signaling is close to its practical limits.

PCI-Express, a third-generation I/O architecture, addresses the need for ever-increasing I/O bandwidth by providing a solution that is high-speed, low pin count and point-to-point. But, with this new architecture comes interoperability and compliance issues that designers must resolve to implement PCI-Express into their designs.

Tektronix' comprehensive, integrated tool set - signal sources, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, probes and software - enables designers to resolve these issues quickly and efficiently so that they can easily implement PCI-Express into their designs.
