Tektronix TDS7704B Oscilloscope Receives Nomination for 2003 Innovation of the Year

Exclusive EDN Awards Program Honors Truly Outstanding Electronic Products

BEAVERTON, Ore., February 9, 2004 - Tektronix, Inc. (NYSE: TEK), a leading worldwide provider of test, measurement and monitoring instrumentation, today announced the TDS7704B digital phosphor oscilloscope (DPO) has been selected from a field of hundreds as a finalist in the Test & Measurement category for this year's EDN Innovation of the Year Awards. The story, including category nominees, appears in the February 5, 2004 edition of EDN and can be viewed online at:

The 14th Annual EDN Innovation of the Year awards recognizes unique, state-of-the-art electronics products in each of 13 product categories. After an open nomination period, EDN's technical editors selected finalists in each category. In the next few weeks, EDN's worldwide audience including electronics engineers and engineering managers will use an online ballot to select the ultimate winners from among these finalists. EDN's editorial staff and the EDN Editorial Advisory Board also take part in determining the final winners. Winners will be announced at a ceremony on March 29, 2004 in San Francisco.

"We always get an outstanding set of entries to our Innovation program," said EDN Editor-in-Chief Maury Wright. "The chosen finalists should be proud of their selection because many worthy products barely missed the cut. I look forward to meeting with all of the participants at the awards banquet."

"In order to enable our customers' leading-edge developments, we must always be a step ahead, providing the tools that help them create the future. Recognition by a leading industry publication such as EDN affirms our success in meeting those customer needs," said, Colin Shepard, Vice President, Oscilloscope Products, Tektronix, Inc. "The new TDS7704B is today's ultimate serial data design tool, providing not only the banner specifications and signal fidelity to address high-speed data rates but also the solution set engineers need to be more efficient and confident throughout the design and test cycle." EDN's original coverage on the TDS7704B can be viewed at

The TDS7704B is a precision instrument used to solve the most demanding high-speed measurement problems in communications, computing, and other advanced electronic applications. With its 7-GHz bandwidth the TDS7704B acquires signals with unsurpassed fidelity. The oscilloscope's input risetime is an industry-leading 43 ps, and delta-time measurement accuracy at 1.5 ps RMS. The TDS7704B provides a new advanced SiGe triggering system optimized for debugging signal anomalies and glitches that are less than 110 ps, event qualification and extremely low trigger of less than 1.0 ps RMS for accurate signal capture. The DPO's waveform capture rate (more than 400,000 waveforms per second) powered by exclusive DPX® acquisition technology, is orders of magnitude better than existing digital storage oscilloscopes (DSOs) in delivering faster accumulation of signal data for both critical insight into signal behavior and in-depth analysis.
