Tektronix Announces New Industry Leading Load Generation Solution for VoIP and Converged Networks
Spectra2 version 4.0 and Wideband Trunking Interface (WTI) Processing Cards Deliver Unsurpassed Call Capacity, System Endurance, and End-User Quality Testing
BEAVERTON, Ore., November 30, 2004 - Tektronix, Inc. (NYSE: TEK), a leading worldwide provider of test, measurement and monitoring instrumentation, today announced the availability of its large-scale load generation solution for VoIP and converged networks in the Spectra2 product line that leads the industry in scalability and capacity.
The Spectra2 large-scale load solution is built using Spectra2 version 4.0 software and Tektronix' new Wideband Trunking Interface (WTI) processing cards. Users can now perform both sophisticated signaling and high-speed media generation from one system. This solution delivers up to six Gigabit Ethernet, STM-1, or OC-3 interfaces in a single Spectra2 server. Calls can be established with VoIP protocols such as SIP, H.323, MGCP, and Megaco as well as SS7 ISUP. Media traffic can be generated across RTP and TDM voice paths simultaneously to test key network elements such as Media Gateways. Spectra2 also provides voice quality analysis tools for TDM and IP networks in one integrated system.
"Our customers now have a truly scaleable solution that surpasses any competing solution in the market to test call capacity, system endurance, and end-user quality", said Chris Kirk, Director of Product Management, Communications Test and Assurance, Tektronix. "As carrier networks migrate to an IP-based infrastructure, it is critical that VoIP-based network elements are interoperable with legacy networks, and that IP-based services can maintain the quality users have come to expect from the PSTN."
"When you look at the available solutions on the market for VoIP and converged network testing, you do not see the level of integration our customers are demanding - a solution that provides protocol monitoring, functional testing, and large-scale load generation in a compact and easy-to-use tool," said Lyn Cantor, Vice President, Communications Test and Assurance, Tektronix. "The completion of a large-scale load solution fulfills our year-long strategy of developing the leading monitoring, testing, and generation solution our customers need for converged and VoIP networks."
Simultaneous use of Channels and Higher Calls per Second
The Spectra2 large-scale load solution delivers the highest-performing load generation tool on the market. A Spectra2 equipped with a WTI OC-3 board and Spectra2 version 4.0 can generate 2,016 simultaneous calls with media per board, scaling up to six boards for a total of 12,096 timeslots per system. The WTI RTP board delivers 2,000 simultaneous calls with RTP streams per board, for a total of 12,000 RTP streams on systems equipped with six boards. Spectra2 version 4.0 can also support 126,000 calls per hour with voice quality analysis (PESQ).
