After several years of enjoying an MSO4000 in the lab, we added an MSO4000B (needed the Ethernet decode) and an MSO5000 (planned to do Ethernet conformance testing). The MSO4000B made an excellent tool even better, but the MSO5000 has been a disappointment at almost every turn. The interface is slow and laggy and there are frequently occuring bugs in simple things like cursor and waveform positioning. Serial decode (COMP, EMBD) are not quite as good as their 4k equivalents, and CAN decode (VNM) is nearly useless (especially with a Tek-acknowledged bug in mixed-txrx buses that still hasn't been fixed), and a crying shame when you look at what the 4k can do.
If you're into automated test, the 5k might be worth looking into, but I'd highly recommend you get a demo first of exactly what you plan to do. If you're into embedded application design or mixed signal debug, stay away. The MSO4000 is more mature with better features.
No, I do not recommend this product.

As Audiod points out, the MSO/DPO5000 family is newer than the MSO/DPO4000/B models. We released several firmware updates since the MSO/DPO5000’s initial introduction that included operation fixes and added more features such as Search and Event Tables for Serial and Parallel Buses, Save on Event, and Visual Event Trigger.

BTW, the latest firmware release is available for download at no charge from the Tektronix website (
http://www.tek.com/oscilloscope/mso... ), and we encourage all MSO/DPO5000 owners to update their scopes to take advantage of the improvements. Generally, firmware updates are available a couple times per year, so it’s a good idea to use the DOWNLOADS section our website Home page (scroll down and view in lower left corner) to check if a later version is available for your scope.

We agree, it’s also a good idea to get a demonstration of any scope you are considering for purchase. Trying them in your setting is the best way to evaluate their performance based on your needs.
