The high speed (1GHz / 5GS/s) means high resolution and capture size. The zoom feature allows you to closely examine longer time base waveforms for faster time base features. Measurements in High Resolution mode are very accurate, replacing the need for a separate bench DMM most of the time.
We use two TAP1500 active (FET) single-ended, one TDP1000 differential and one TCP0030 current probe (along with the included 4x P6139A passive probes) to perform a great deal of the debug and verification of new high-reliability industrial embedded computer designs. The built-in digital analyzer has helped us troubleshoot a difficult BIOS SW problem.
Since we may be performing verification and validation on up to three separate projects at a time, these little “lunch-box” scopes are invaluable to our small R&D group. They are nearly constantly in use and they allow our TDS7704B to be used mainly for its intended purpose: on-going detailed high-speed compliance testing.
