Firmware - DPO-DSA70000D - without Docs - Win 7

This is a firmware release for the DPO72504D, DSA73304D, DSA72504D, DSA73304D products. (Released September 2012)

This software is not compatible and cannot be used with oscilloscopes running the Windows XP (32 bit) operating system.

If you use DPOJET and/or DPOPWR or other optional applications, Tektronix recommends that you install the latest versions of these applications after installing TekScope V6.4.5.2.

There are two downloads: one with firmware and updated documentation (PDF manuals) and this one which is the smaller one with firmware only.

Please follow the installation instructions carefully. To simplify obtaining and installing the firmware, you can download the file directory to your instrument while connected to the Internet. However, there is not a requirement to stay connected to the Internet when operating the instrument.

Description
-----------

Version 6.4.5 adds support for the new P75PST Precision Solder Tip
and the P7520A probe which together will provide bandwidths up to 25GHz.

Version 6.4.5 is not approved for installation on the DPO/DSA/MSO70KC,
DPO7KC or DPO5K instruments.

The remainder of this release note describes the changes that
took effect with version 6.4.0.

This software version is a maintenance release which provides product
enhancements and defect fixes. The product enhancements include:
Enhanced Visual Triggering which allows add/delete/editing of vertices,
a new control window, and changing colors of the areas to match the
source waveform
New bus decode/search/trigger (with improved decode performance)
PCIe gen 1/2/3 (70K bus trigger only supports up to gen 2 (5Gb/s))
CAN, LIN, Flexray
2-Wire SPI
MIL-STD-1553
Throughput improvements on 7KC and 70KC of 15-20% in the following areas:
Faster calculation of the FastFrame summary frame
Acquisition/Update rate improvements for long record lengths
New "mark all trigger events" search capability built into Pinpoint
trigger menus (Edge, Glitch, Pattern, Runt, Setup/Hold, State, Timeout,
Transition, Width, Window)
New model for Zoom and Cursor buttons that reassigns the multi-purpose
knob functions without turning zoom/cursors off and on again

Enhancements to the protocol event table for sizing and docking the table

Restrictions
------------
This software is only compatible with the products identified above.
It cannot be installed on any other DPO, DSA or MSO product.

Initial Turn on
---------------
After receipt of a new oscilloscope or the installation of a new
release of software, to ensure peak oscilloscope
performance, run Signal Path Compensation (SPC) after the
recommended warm up time has passed. The SPC item is located
under Utilities->Instrument Calibration...,. The recommended warm up
time for these instruments is 1 hour. All probes should also be
recalibrated - see Vertical->Probe Cal...

When you purchase a new oscilloscope, the main Scope Application and
any options you may have purchased are installed at the factory.
Some software packages must be installed separately by the user.

This release supports only English in the scope GUI.

When a newer version of instrument software than was shipped
with the oscilloscope is available, you can download software from the
Tektronix web site at www.tektronix.com/downloads. Be sure to read
the "This SW Applies To:" list of instruments to be sure your model
is listed. To be notified of new instrument software releases, you can
subscribe to the Tektronix RSS feed for software and drivers at the

Main Oscilloscope Application
-----------------------------
The main oscilloscope application is critical to the operation of
the instrument as an oscilloscope or as a PC. The application is
expected to be running at all times.  Even when minimized on the
Windows taskbar, oscilloscope error messages, notifiers, etc. are
always posted to the desktop. The only time you should exit the main
oscilloscope application is to install other software packages.

Activating Options
------------------
Some options such as extended memory or advanced analysis and
application software are factory installed. If you ordered these
options from the factory, they are already enabled and ready for
you to use.

If you would like to upgrade your oscilloscope to include one of
these options, contact your local Tektronix representative. Once
the purchase transaction is complete, you will be given a new
Option Installation Key that you can enter to enable the desired
options.  Refer to the Option documentation for detailed
instructions.

Windows Clipboard Limitations
-----------------------------
The size of waveforms copied to the clipboard when using the
Edit->Copy or Ctrl-C key is limited to the size of the Windows
clipboard.  Therefore, waveforms with a large record length will
not fit on the clipboard. A notifier will warn you in this case.
The size of the clipboard is determined by the Windows operating
system. The File Save menu item is recommended for transferring large
waveform records.

Windows Access Control Limitations
----------------------------------
Switching of the GPIB configuration between Controller and Talker/Listener
modes cannot happen with the UAC (User Account Control) settings set
to Default or Always Notify.  To change the user account settings select
Start -> Control Panel.  Then click on User Accounts followed by Change User
Account Settings.  Change the settings to either Never Notify or Notify me only
when programs try to make changes to my computer.

LXI operation requires specific UAC settings to work properly because it needs
access control to change the network parameter configuration.  To change the
user account settings select Start -> Control Panel.  Then click on User
Accounts followed by Change User Account Settings.  Change the settings to
either Never Notify or Notify me only when programs try to make changes to my
computer.

PC Hardware and Software Compatibility
--------------------------------------
DPO/DSA series oscilloscopes are sophisticated, highly integrated
hardware and software systems. The oscilloscope is dependent on
the specific version of the PC motherboard and Windows operating
system installed at the factory. Any changes to any of the PC hardware
or the Windows operating system will affect the performance of the
instrument. Do not attempt to modify or update any of the PC
hardware, Windows 7 operating system components, or BIOS settings
unless instructed to do so by Tektronix.

Power Configuration & Settings
------------------------------
Tektronix recommends that you not modify the power-related settings
in either the BIOS or the Power Management areas of Windows 7.  They
are set at the factory to a configuration that is optimal for the
instrument. Changing these settings can prevent the oscilloscope
from operating properly.

Network Security
----------------
Windows 7 contains an integrated software firewall that is enabled
by default. The enabled Windows 7 firewall provides some protection
from Network worm-type viruses.

Tektronix has tested for compatibility with the security configuration
for Information Technology products specified in the United States
Government Configuration Baseline (USGCB) v1.1.0  settings for Windows 7
and Internet Explorer.

Antivirus Protection
--------------------
If you connect this instrument to a network, we highly recommend
that you install antivirus software.  Prior to leaving Tektronix,
this instrument was verified clean of known viruses.

Adobe Reader
------------
The Adobe Reader auto-update option is set to check for updates weekly.

To disable this auto-update option, complete the following steps:
1.  After Adobe Reader is installed, launch the application.
2.  From the menu, Edit->Preferences for Updates...
3.  Uncheck the "Automatically check for Adobe updates" option.
4.  Click OK.
5.  After the update finishes, install any updates or select Cancel.

From time to time Tektronix releases new versions of the product
software or optional application software.  Customers can download
these from the Tektronix web site at www.tektronix.com/downloads.
Be sure to read the "This SW Applies To:" list of instruments to
be sure your model is listed.

Service Packs and Critical patches from Microsoft made available
during the development of the operating system for this instrument
were tested and included by Tektronix.  Service Packs and Critical
patches released after the development of the operating system are
tested on an as needed basis by Tektronix.

Remote PC Control Software Support
----------------------------------
This oscilloscope series supports Microsoft Remote Desktop. For
proper display functionality, the remote viewer should have its
resolution set to 1024 X 768 or full screen. Other settings may
cause display artifacts.

The keyboard Print Screen key may also be used to capture a full
screen shot of the display.

Instructions

DPO70000D/DSA70000D Series Firmware Upgrade

Use these instructions to download the most current firmware to your
instrument.

This firmware upgrade may be downloaded directly to your instrument
while connected to the Internet.  Or, the file may be downloaded
to a workstation and copied to a CD. The CD may then be used on
multiple instruments.

The download process deposits a WINZIP .exe file containing the
firmware upgrade in the location on the instrument or PC you
designate.  If the file is downloaded to a location other than
on the instrument, copy the file to the instrument, or a storage
device that is accessible from the instruments's Windows desktop.

To extract the firmware upgrade files to the instrument,
double-click on the downloaded WINZIP .exe file.  In the resulting
WINZIP window, determine the location to which the files should be
extracted by leaving the default in the field labeled,
"Unzip to folder", or enter a new location in this field.
Select Unzip to complete the file extraction process.

Select OK to confirm the files were successfully unzipped.  A
selection of buttons to review documents and install the firmware
upgrade will appear on the screen.  Select "Install" to be guided
through the firmware installation process and follow the on-screen
directions.

1. The upgrade process requires two steps. The first step uninstalls the
existing version and the second step installs the new version. A reboot
is required after each step.

2. When prompted to reboot the instrument, select "Yes" and click "Finish"
to reboot. After the instrument re-boots, The firmware upgrade program will
automatically restart and continue with the install process. Follow the
on-screen directions again to install the new firmware and select "Yes",
when prompted, to reboot a second time.

3. After the instrument re-boots, the installation process will be
complete. From the Menu bar, select Help->About TekScope and Verify that
the correct model name and version are displayed. We recommend you run
Signal Path Compensation (SPC) after loading the new firmware and after
a 20-minute warm-up period. To run SPC, from the Menu bar select
Utilities->Instrument Calibration... and press Calibrate.
