I've been using the MTS4000 for some time now, and I'm still finding new uses for it. We have the 8VSB option, so I can look at my off-air signal along with my ASI transport stream. With it, I can look at what I'm sending into my STL, what I'm receiving from my STL, what is coming out of my transmitter, and what I can receive from my antenna.
The whole transmission chain - how handy is that!
But wait - there's more! I can also record the transport stream on the unit and, since it's a computer running windows, I can hook it up to the network and send these recordings to those annoying cable/satellite/fiber companies who say that the problem is what I'm sending, and say "this is what's going out - the problem is yours!"
What can you look at in your transport stream? Everything that I've ever tried to.
The Transport Stream Compliance Analyzer (TSCA) will do real-time and deferred time transport stream analysis. You can set different user-selectable MPEG-2, DVB, and ATSC conformance tests. The test shows the transport structure, header contents, hexadecimal packet contents, PCR timing /transport rate graphs and error message logs. I really like the graphs and the logs - I can let it run over night and check the logs when I come in.
The Packetized Elementary Stream (PES) Analyzer will look at the stream with selectable test options. It shows the PES program structure, header contents, packet contents, PTS/DTS timing graphs and analysis reports.
The Transport Stream – System Target Decoder (T-STD) Buffer Analyzer will let you check your MPEG against the standard, and let you know if anything is wrong.
That's only a few of the things this unit does. I'm very happy with it.
The only down side that I've run into is the computer itself. Occasionally, it overheats and shuts down. It's not a big deal, but it can be annoying, occasionally.
Other than that, I've really liked using the MTS4000.
