WFM7120 Waveform Monitors Used To Qualify New Single Link Serial-Digital-Interface (SDI)3Gb/s Infrastructure
BEAVERTON, Ore., September 12, 2008 — Tektronix, Inc., a leading worldwide provider of test, measurement and monitoring instrumentation, announced that Antena 3, the leading Spanish broadcast communications group, has adopted new video test equipment from Tektronix including WFM7120 waveform monitors. The award winning Tektronix WFM7120 monitors provide 3 Gb/s SDI support for monitoring and measurement of 1080P 50/59.94/60 HD video signals and will play an important role in the development of new 3Gb/s-ready facilities for Antena 3 in Madrid.
As the demand for full High Definition (1080P) content grows, 3Gb/s SDI is increasingly required to providehigher capacity SDI transport. 3Gb/s SDI resolves the synchronization problems often encountered when using 1.5Gb/s Dual Link connections. Progression to 3Gb/s SDI technology is the next step for the industry.
Antena 3’s new, state-of-the-art facilities were specifically designed to enable the broadcaster to produce 1080P material, thus becoming one of the first European television companies ready to deliver full HD content. Antena 3 required test equipment to verify that its infrastructure is capable of delivering high quality service and content. The broadcaster carried out extensive testing with the Tektronix WFM7120 waveform monitor that provides 3Gb/s jitter measurement, an essential component to qualify the performance of cable, facilities, and new equipment.
The WFM7120 was selected because it provides the flexibility to monitor HD/SD content today and customers can seamlessly add more 3Gb/s SDI monitoring when needed. Antena 3 confirmed that this capability, in particular, protects their investment as future facility enhancements are planned and implemented. During equipment selection, the WFM7120 provided the capability to measure 3Gb/s SDI jitter as well as standard waveform measurements. According to Antena 3, Tektronix offered the most complete solution available, reinforcing their belief about the leadership of Tektronix in video test equipment.
“A s 3Gb/s technology emerges as the delivery method of choice for 1080P 50/60, forward-thinking broadcasters like Antena 3 will require precision tools to ensure the quality of their content ,” said Eben Jenkins, director, Video Product Line, Tektronix . “Tektronix has deep video expertise and many years of experience with physical layer measurement and analysis that uniquely qualify us to support our customers as they move into this challenging new arena.”
Antena 3 will use the WFM7120 waveform monitor to monitor Antena 3’s HD and SD content and test infrastructure including cables, routers and other related equipment in order to determine the best equipment to use for 3Gb/s content. The WFM7120 will help to ensure that the Antena 3 infrastructure and workflow will provide a high quality service to its viewers.
