Compliance Testing for DVI Receiver (TP3)

The receiver testing compliance to DVI specifications involves various tests such as:

DVI Receiver Eye Test (at TP3)

Follow these steps to perform receiver eye measurement:

  1. Connect TPA-R board at the receiver end (TP3)
  2. Degrade the eye diagram either by varying the amplitude or by introducing jitter, at the transmitter end according to the DVI specification. In case there are no amplitude controls on the transmitter, the below set up using the Equivalent Source Board (ESB) as shown in Fig. 8 can be used to generate the TMDS signal with the varying amount of jitter and amplitude to conduct testing.
  3. Run TDSDVI and ensure that the signal passes the mask
  4. Remove the TPA-R fixture and connect the DVI receiver, as shown in Fig 8. View the display for any anomalies

Once the signal passes the given eye diagrams on the scope, testing is now conducted for jitter tolerance test. The following set up, as shown in Fig 8 is required.

In case, an equivalent source board is not available an alternate configuration using a transmitter chip as shown in Fig 9 can also be used for receiver testing.
