Tektronix Provides Monitoring Tools to Enhance SS7 and Wireless Training Experience at Telcordia

-Instructional Materials, Hardware and CD-ROM supplied for Engineer and Technician Training-

BEAVERTON, Ore., Jan. 4, 2000 - Tektronix, Inc. (NYSE: TEK) today announced it will provide network monitoring tools for use in courses conducted by worldwide telecommunications trainer Telcordia Technologies of Lisle, Ill. to educate RF engineers and network technicians about wireless network signaling. The rapidly growing wireless market demands that more engineers understand Signaling System 7 (SS7), an industry-wide standard that is the backbone of modern telecommunications.

Tektronix will provide Telcordia with K1205 signaling protocol analyzers for telecommunication networks. These will be used to teach network personnel the structure and flow of the SS7 protocol. In addition to the K1205, Tektronix will supply instructional materials, hardware and CD-ROMs for classroom and at-home self-study use. The materials provide training relevant to the responsibilities of engineers and network technicians working for today's wireless service providers.

PCS and cellular carriers who are responsible for planning, switch maintenance, central office engineering, network operations or interconnection of wireless networks or services utilize Telcordia for SS7 training in a laboratory setting that integrates multiple network components and vendor equipment. Tektronix' Windows NT compatible K1205 monitoring system will be used to demonstrate how to quickly and accurately troubleshoot, maintain and manage SS7 network systems.

The Powerful and Cost-effective K1205 Protocol Analyzer

In June 1998 Tektronix announced the K1205, a low-cost, lightweight signaling protocol analyzer for telecommunication network testing monitoring. Offering multi-link test capabilities, the K1205 provides up to four times the power of any other protocol analyzer on the market. It can be used in service application areas to troubleshoot individual network segments, monitor base station configurations and conduct field tests.

Providing an open architecture based on international standards, the K1205 can simultaneously monitor up to 16 physical interfaces and up to 32 channels. The instrument can also analyze - online or offline - the different layers of more than 100 communications protocols, including SS7, PCS1900, CDMA, NMT 900, ISDN-D, V5.x, DPNSS and DASS2.
