Tektronix and Dragonfly Software Provide End-to-End Debug Support for ARM9™ and ARM9E™ Core-Based Design Applications-Tektronix TLA Logic Analyzer Family Also Supports Embedded Trace Macrocell and ARM7™ Processors- CHICAGO, February 29, 2000 - Tektronix, Inc. (NYSE: TEK) and Dragonfly Software, a Tektronix third-party developer, today announced that Tektronix' TLA logic analyzer family now supports ARM9™ and ARM9E™ processors, as well as Trace Port capabilities provided by the ARM® Embedded Trace Macrocell. This all-in-one solution supports ARM9 and ARM9E cores with a comprehensive tool set that helps design teams locate the subtle and difficult problems that appear during debug of embedded hardware and software. Tektronix' recently announced a business strategy that targets markets in the global communications and Internet industries. Embedded systems are the foundation for new products and evolving infrastructures in these markets. Accordingly, Tektronix is dedicated to working with industry and third-party technology leaders to provide advanced logic analysis functionality to it customers. The Tektronix solution uses just one instrument, the easy-to-navigate, open Windows TLA logic analyzer, with increased functionality enabled by Dragonfly Software. Because no external PC is necessary, the instrument provides a complete, integrated logic analyzer/PC station at debug, allowing the engineer to readily configure the environment as desired. "Tektronix' commitment to the ARM architecture increases the range and the capabilities of development tools available to ARM core users," said William Orme, Development Systems program manager for ARM. "Combining Tektronix' analyzers with ARM's development tools provides a comprehensive solution for ARM Powered™ designs, especially those containing the Embedded Trace Macrocell." Powerful Debug Capability For The Entire Embedded Design TeamThe TLA logic analyzer with Dragonfly Software debugs software code for ARM9 and ARM9E core-based processors after the design is committed to final silicon. The TLA logic analyzer acts as a raw data-collection device, capturing trace port signals. The software addition provides the necessary interface to the debugger software tool where trace-history reconstruction occurs. The Tektronix solution allows a direct connection to the ARM9E Trace Port, eliminating the need for a separate Trace Port capture device. The TLA logic analyzer family may be used standalone, or as part of an integrated debug environment. This enables the logic analyzer to be used at all stages of design debug. TLA logic analyzers are PC-based, with a wide range of resources for storage, communication and display. Any member of the TLA family can be used as the host for the debugger, or as a smart acquisition device to the software developer's PC workstation. TLA Family of Logic Analyzers Address A Variety of Embedded System Design NeedsThe award-winning TLA family of logic analyzers from Tektronix offers best-in-class, real-time software debug capabilities with up to 16 M deep trace, state triggering and an open Windows platform. The TLA 600 Series, the newest and most affordable member of the TLA logic analyzer family, provides breakthrough performance and 2-GHz timing simultaneous with up to 200-MHz state. The card-modular TLA 700 Series provides analysis tools for solving elusive problems that threaten product development schedules of the entire design team. Central to both members of the TLA logic analyzer family is MagniVu™ acquisition technology, a super-fast digital sampler that offers 500-picosecond (ps) timing resolution on all channels. This resolution enables the user to detect timing anomalies, such as set up and hold violations and glitches, with a high degree of accuracy.
